Arafura Container Ship NOx Test Results

The data below compares the Nitrogen Oxide test results obtained by ETC, an Australian certified laboratory, on the container ship Arafura to the standards set by the International Maritime Organization.

IMO Annex VI Regulation 13 regarding NOx

Applies to engines (with power output of more than 130 kW or 170 hp) manufactured after 2000 or engines reconstructed or rebuilt after 2000. Different NOx limits for various engine speeds in rpm:

1. Less than 130 rpm (Arafura): 17.0 g/kWh (22.78 g/hp-hr)
2. ≥ 130 rpm, but less than 2000 rpm: 45.0*n(-0.2) g/kWh (60.3*n(-0.2) g/hp-hp)
3. ≥ 2000 rpm: 9.8 g/kWh (13g/hp-hr)

Green Plus Emissions Results When Compared to IMO Standards for Ships of Arafura's Size

- Arafura was averaging 20,171 hp or 15,048kW, when at sea.
- For NOx the IMO standard is 17gm/kWh
- The average NOx emission rate on the Arafura was 2400g/min = 144,000g/h
- To get the rate per kWh we divide 144,000 by 15,048 = 9.57g/kWh of NOx emissions
- The twelve year old Arafura using Green Plus was emitting NOx at
43% below the IMO standard
